First Report Card

Ian got his first report card last week.  We were very excited to see how he did and after looking through it very proud of him!  He's a smart kid and he's learning so much at school.

I love that he got a 4 for singing.  HE'S ALWAYS SINGING!!

We are looking forward to the rest of year and how far he advances!

Borne Loves Indie

Borne loves to lay on Indie.  I think mostly because she's so soft.  For the most part she puts up with him!  Such a good dog!
You might notice that Borne is holding a Zhu Zhu pet.  It's one of his new favorite toys!

Our little monkey!

The other day I was in the living room and Chris said "Mel come here and look at Borne."  I rounded the corner to his room and found this:

He had climbed into the walker all by himself.  He was just hanging out playing.  I was amazed he was not screaming yet - he's not one to be contained like this.  He played for about 10 minutes and then he got upset when he could not get out by himself.  I think we are going to have our hands full with this guy.  He climbs into and onto everything already - and he's only 1!
But look at that face!

HUSKER Stadium!

Lincoln Industries has a yearly celebration and this year it was held on the UNL campus.  We were able to take a tour of the stadium and go out on the field.  It's pretty crazy how different it is when there's not 86,000 people in red in the seats!

The Killigans

The Killigans played an all ages early show a couple of weeks ago so I thought it would be a good opportunity for Ian to see his rock star dad.  We got there and at first stood in the back to watch and listen.  Ian had a pair of ear plugs in but they were not working.  Ian has always had a very sensitive ear and it was no exception that night.  At one point he started crying because it was too loud.  So we hung for one song and headed home.  Next time we'll have to bring the silencing ear phones.  It is cool thought that it's something he can be a part of.  Ian is always singing and humming songs.  He comes home from school singing songs - its amazing how fast he picks up on songs.  I think he has some of his dad's musical ability - Lucky for him!

Halloween 2010

Our little chicken!  This is the same costume that Ian wore when he was 5 months old - tells the difference in size of our two boys!

Nicki (Chris' sister) was born on Halloween so we had a little birthday/halloween party before going door to door.  This was the cool birthday cake for her!

Batman (Ryder), Batgirl (Deni), Darth Vader (Ian)

Making the trip across the street for the first house!

This was the monkey mask that the adults passed around.

Our Darth Vader.  Towards the end of the night Ian took off the mask - it was getting to sweaty (his own words!)

Milk Intolerance

We are thinking that Borne might have a milk intolerance.  Since he was a baby his tummy did not react well to formula so we switched to soy formula and he handled it much better.  Then a couple of weeks ago when trying to switch to whole milk we had some issues so tried the soy milk and much better.  But he's not been his normal happy self lately so we think it's because of the milk in his diet.  So we are on a strict no milk diet for the next 2 weeks to see if it helps.

Honestly this scares me a little bit because we are pretty lazy about what we eat - so this means a little more work for us. But if it means Borne is happier and his tummy does not feel yucky.  And if it works it will be well worth it - we'd have some answers to his fussiness (and I use that word nicely!).  When he's not happy he pretty much yells at you!

So wish us luck on this little adventure - and if you have good ideas for non-milk recipes let me know!

Daycare

So I found a whole bunch of older pictures that I never blogged about - here's one group of them.  Ian and Borne go to a great in-home daycare.  We were really lucky (I think someone was watching over us!) to find Amanda.  Truly it's a funny story how we ended up there.  I thought her name was Tonya for 3 days because I got all confused with a few other daycares on her street - anyway - we are LUCKY!

She's great.  The kids do all kinds of fun stuff and they learn so much.  I credit much of Ian's smarts to her!!

On one of the last days Ian was going full-time I got these pictures.

I could not ask for a better person to watch my kids while we are at work each day.  I hope some day Ian and Borne will both appreciate the great job Amanda does and did for them when they were little!

So to all of the great daycares out there - especially Cotner Critter (Amanda!) - THANK YOU!

Miles

I was cleaning out my email today and came across these pictures that Amy and Pat sent to us.

When Ian was about 3 months old, almost ready to start daycare, Amy & Pat watched him for a few days.  We were very lucky to have an Aunt & Uncle that would want to spend their free time with our little baby.  There are so many things that have changed in the 5 years since these pictures were taken. Many happy moments and some sad.  One of the sad things is that their "first baby" Miles passed away a couple weeks ago.  He was such a sweet dog and these pictures show you!

Thanks Miles for welcoming our baby into your family for a few days!

Look at that fat baby!  Don't you just want to grab those cheeks!

1 year appointment

Last week we had Borne's 1 year appointment.  Here are his measurments:

Height: 30 1/2 inches - 75%
Weight: 20lbs 9oz - 25%
Head: 18 1/2 inches - 75-90%

He's growing like a weed.   I need to pull Ian's measurements out and compare.  I know when Ian was 1 he weighted a lot more than 20lbs!

Here's a little preview from his birthday party.

Vala's Pumpkin Patch

We took our first trip to Vala's pumpkin patch and had lots of fun.

Borne loved it!
One of Borne's favorite places was on the big bouncy pillow.  He was probably one of the youngest kids on the pillow but he just wanted to let go of my hands and run.  He just giggled - it was hilarious.

This was late in the night!

Here Chris and Amy are trying to cook some hot dogs for us.  I think they lost all of the hair off their fingers - the fire was a little hot and the "sticks" were a little too short.

Ian driving the old tractor.
Deni and Ian climbing the spider web.

We had lots of fun and can't wait until next year.  This time of year is so much fun!

I should listen!

So do you ever have those moments when you know things are NOT going according to plan and deep down you know you should be listening and just not push to make it work.

Today is one of those days.

I took a day of vacation and here were my plans:
  • Drop Ian off at school
  • Come home and get Borne a little nap in
  • Take Borne to get some cake smashing pictures
  • Take Borne to daycare
  • Go to Ian's school - eat lunch and hang out for the remainder of the day
  • After school take Ian and Borne to the zoo

As it turns out this is how our day has gone so far:
  • Borne woke up about 4 different time throughout the night - hot and not feeling good.
  • Got up at 5am when Borne was ready to get up in a very grumpy mood (first warning!).
  • Got Ian to school on time! :)
  • Picked up balloons and a cake for pictures.  They spelled Borne's name wrong (second big warning!).
  • Tried to get the pictures taken - only to get cake and blue frosting all over me and have a very unhappy boy.  I think she got one good picture - looks like we'll be going back in two weeks!
  • I'm keeping Borne home because he's just not feeling good and Amanda does not need that on her hands!
  • Borne is now sound asleep.  So my mom is going to run home over her lunch break so that I can still eat lunch with Ian.
We'll see how the rest of the day goes.  We still might try to get something fun this afternoon depending on how Borne is feeling but I'm not planning on it - we'll just see where the day takes us.

I guess when I was up at 5:00am this morning having doubts about how the day would turn out I should have just listened and got comfortable at home.  Next time I'll listen a little better!

This is normally how a Happy Borne is!

Borne is 1!

Our baby turns 1 today.  I can't believe how fast this last year has gone.  Feels like we were just getting home from the hospital.  It goes so fast.

Borne is such a fun kid.  He is all over the place and crazy!!  He goes non-stop.  I think he's trying to keep up with his big brother and honestly he's not far behind him!!  He has the best little personality.  He thinks lots of things are funny especially his big brother.

Right now some of his favorite things to do are:
  • Climb up on the couch and run from one end to the other - most of the time falling at least once along the way.
  • Climbing steps - whenever we go outside it's straight for the steps so he can get to the top part of our backyard.
  • Push Ian's Toy Story umbrella around the house like a vaccum.  It's hilarous.  He can push that thing around for 20 minutes and be perfectly happy.
  • Dance.  Lately when a song or music comes on he'll start dancing - it's so darn cute.
  • Put anything and everything in his mouth!  This last weekend we were working in our backyard and there is a lot of dirt and by the time he was done playing I think he had eaten an entire mud pie!
  • He loves to play chase with Ian.  He loves both chasing and being chased.  They will run around the house forever.  It usually ends with someone crying - I have a feeling this will continue for a long time!  But I do love how already they enjoy each other's company.
We call him our little monkey because he is all over the place and climbing on everything.  Amanda our daycare provider switches between a monkey and squirrel because when he's playing in her backyard he's always trying to get acorns in his mouth.

Here are some pictures from those first couple of months:
These are from a couple weeks ago.  He's changed so much and you can see his personality in these pictures - love them!
