Playing in a Basket

The other night I was in the kitchen cleaning up before dinner and Ian and Borne were playing together.  I could hear them but my back was turned to them.  When I turned around this is what I saw.
Ian thought it would be fun if they both got into the laundry basket so he lifted Borne in and then climbed in himself.  But by the time I got the camera out Borne was not happy (can you tell he's screaming!) and Ian was worried he was going to get in trouble since Borne was crying.

It was a pretty funny scene and I have a feeling as Borne gets older much of this stuff will be more voluntary!

Head First

Borne took a dive - head first - into our paper recycling bin last night.  Chris was quick with the camera to catch it right after.  This monkey is all over the place and into everything.

End of First Day

Chris and I both picked up Ian after his first day of school.  As he walked down the ramp towards us he looked exhausted.  He was so tired.  It was a big day.  So Chris carried him part of the way home!
He was still all smiles though!

First Day of School

Here are pictures from Ian's first day of preschool last year compared to his first day of Kindergarten this year.  He's grown so much - it's crazy.  Everyday he turns into a little man.

I think these last two are funny because this is Ian being Ian.

So far Ian is really liking Kindergarten.  He never really has much to say - we normally have to dig information out of him but I think that's a good thing.  School is just another part of his day that he enjoys.

The first day was a little emotional for me but I made it without tears.  Ian is such an independent kid and was so excited it makes it easier for me to drop him off everyday.  On the way to school that first day Ian was all smiles and said "This is so exciting!"  It was a very exciting day.  For the next 13 years we are on a school schedule and we'll see how Ian grows into a young man!

Special Lunch!

Last week Ian and I had to go to the dentist so afterwards I said I'd take him anywhere for lunch since he was going to start school and we would not be able to do a special lunch like this for a while.  He of course wanted to go to McDonal's.  So we had a fun little lunch together.

Things That Make Me Happy

So it's 11:41pm the night before Ian starts school and I have a cough and I don't want to go to bed because it will just wake up Chris and my mind will not shut off so I thought I'd post something since it's been awhile.

A couple week ago I start a list in a notebook I carry in my purse.  I titled it Things That Make Me Happy.  Right now there are three things listed.  The very first thing I wrote was singing loudly to the Sara Bareilles CD.  Chris gave this CD to me a couple Christmas ago.  It was right before she become really popular and we even went to her concert in Omaha that following spring.

I'm not quite sure why it makes me happy to roll my windows down and sing at the top of my lungs to her songs but it makes me HAPPY so I do it once in a while.  Most of the time it just happens by chance.

After writing this down I used it one day to brighten up my day.  I was on the way home from work...work had been not so much fun that day and I was a little down in the dumps so I thought about my list and the CD popped into my head.  So I turned the CD player on - rolled down the windows - and started singing at the top of my lungs.  It worked...I was a much happier person by the time I got home.

I wonder a little if this makes me happy because it reminds me of going to her concert with Chris.  It was a very fun night.  The concert was in Omaha during the middle of the week.  We dropped Ian off at my mom's house (this was pre-Borne!) and headed to Omaha.  We went out for dinner and enjoyed some adult conversation.  Then headed to The Waiting Room where we watched the warm up guy play his guitar and then Sara came on.  Something special happened in my heart that night.  I can't really explain it other than it was a truly happy moment.  I was happy where I was, who I was with and I knew the next day would be just perfect for whatever reason.

The show got over fairly late but I think Chris and I talked all the way home.  It was a late night and I knew I would be tired the next day but I did not care - I was HAPPY at that moment.

So I'm not sure if hearing her CD makes me remember that wonderful night I spend with my husband but it makes me happy and I need to remember that the next time I need a little pick me up!

You can go to YouTube and watch a video made to the Fairytale song that is one of my favorites.

I'll keep you posted on other items added to my THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY LIST!
